Activities

The project activities can be divided into different categories. Those highlighted in this section include classroom activities by middle school students, field trips by middle-school students, and training activities for project participants. Contents of selected classroom activities are provided in the section on Lesson Plans and Units. Work geared towards disseminating project activities is highlighted in the section on Dissemination.

Field Trips

Field trips enable middle school students to observe and, in some cases, participate in real-world applications of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Trips have included visits to Hazard Challenger Space Learning Center, Louisville Science Center, and Newport Aquarium. Some students have also taken field trips to local creeks to conduct water quality testing exercises. Others have taken field trips to EKU where they had the opportunity to see university science laboratories as well as to interact with college students and professors.
